Find mold on a key ingredient? Forgot to thaw your meat? Too hungry to cook something? These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to why you want to have “throw together” meals on hand. The objective with these meals are to get a nutritious meal in without too much effort to cook it, made with items that you keep around (or could keep around).
Wraps – tortillas, canned chicken or tuna and a vegetable – bagged salad, spinach, carrots, bell peppers, really whatever you have on hand goes great in these. Add some extra flavor with a sauce of your choosing – BBQ sauce, buffalo sauce, ranch, Italian dressing, salsa, etc.
Quesadillas – tortillas, cheese, beans (whatever you have around/like), canned/frozen/leftover chicken (optional).
PB&J with carrots (ideally if not before game/practice on whole wheat bread, get that fiber)
4. Frozen Veggie fried rice with frozen edamame, canned/frozen/leftover meat
5. Burrito Bowl – quick rice/frozen rice, can of beans, can of corn, salsa and whatever veggies you have on hand and meat if you want it!
6. Ramen – ramen noodles, pack of frozen vegetables, egg or chicken
7. Pasta – pasta noodles of your choices, pesto or marinara, frozen veggies and
frozen meatballs
9. Sweet potato and black bean tacos – As simple as it sounds or follow a recipe
